Mustard oil
Mustard oil is a fat derived from mustard seeds. It is characterized by an intense yellow color and a typical strong odor. It contains many valuable nutrients, including selenium, zinc, calcium, iron, magnesium, beta-carotene and omega-3 acids, as well as vitamins of group B, vitamins A, E, K and C.
In Poland it is still a relatively poorly known product, but in India it is widely used for both food and cosmetic purposes.
Mustard oil properties
It has been shown to have remarkable properties on the scalp and hair. It also prevents excessive hair loss. Due to the presence of vitamin A and magnesium or iron, it not only causes the hair to grow faster, but also strengthens and improves its condition.
In addition, it greatly moisturizes the skin, which has a positive effect on the hair follicles. Moreover, mustard oil prevents overgrowth of hair.
Mustard oil for your hair
In phytotherapy and trichology, mustard seed oil is recognized as one of the most potent natural stimulants for hair follicle activation. Utilized as a pre-wash scalp massage or warm hair oiling treatment, it delivers profound restorative benefits.
Massaging the scalp with gently warmed mustard oil (left under a shower cap for 30–60 minutes) stimulates dormant follicles, curtails telogen effluvium, and imparts dense, lustrous body to thinning hair. Owing to its potent warming allyl isothiocyanates, a 24-hour patch test on the inner arm is recommended prior to first application to rule out cutaneous hypersensitivity.
