Division of fat compounds
Fat compounds are indispensable components of the diet.. They provide the body with a large amount of energy, are a source of essential unsaturated fatty acids (NFCs), support the functioning of the nervous system and are involved in the synthesis of hormones.. They are also essential for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K.. Fat compounds are a group of lipid compounds with a diverse structure.. The basic classification is based on the origin (plant and animal) and the presence of double bonds (saturated and unsaturated).. Saturated fat compounds are mainly produced by animal organisms, while unsaturated compounds are mainly found in plant products.. An exception is palm and coconut lipids, which despite their plant origin, contain large amounts of saturated fatty acids.
