There has been a significant increase in the popularity of the vegan diet in recent years, and for good reason. An increasing number of studies confirm its beneficial effects on the human body. Furthermore, this type of diet also allows for sustainable use of environmental resources. However, the question of whether plant-based foods are inherently more nutritious than animal-based ones remains open.
Rising popularity of the vegan diet among Poles
The meat-free diet is gaining popularity among Poles. Compared to previous years, consumption of meat products in Polish households has fallen by 2% (Source: „Vegan and vegetarian food on the wave“, epub). Among those who choose plant-based products, the largest group consists of young people, with the majority being women. The most popular products are plant-based drinks, vegetable paste sandwiches, and meat replacement products, particularly vegan burgers. In recent years, their sales have increased significantly. Even 72% of Poles, including those who do not declare reaching for vegan products, recognize at least one brand producing these products. Even manufacturers who previously offered only animal-based products are introducing vegan options to the market. The main reasons why people choose plant-based products are: desire to maintain health, moral principles, desire to reduce negative impact on climate change, and religious reasons. Vegan food is becoming increasingly available, and the main reason for this is its popularity.
