A few words about aloe vera and its constituents

Aloe vera is a plant that has been cultivated for centuries and is native to Africa. It belongs to a group of succulents - plants that possess the ability to store water. Its fame is based on the multidimensionality of its health attributes and its lower toxicity compared to other plant-derived remedies. One cannot also overlook the broad range of nutrients that constitute natural aloe. Among the more than 140 biologically active compounds, one can mention for instance calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, B vitamins, folic acid, vitamins A and C, linoleic acid, and endogenous and exogenous amino acids.

Applications

In biblical times, ordinary aloe was employed for the preservation and embalming of the deceased. Presently, however, it boasts a multitude of applications. Primarily, it is a herbal raw material utilized in the production of aloe oil, which exhibits moisturizing and regenerative properties. This product is employed in cosmetics for hair and skin care, providing nourishing attention, such as after sunburn or dehydration. Aloe also finds its application in medicine, including the treatment of gastrointestinal infections, peptic ulcers, acne, or skin injuries. It is worth noting its use in cases of kidney stones and hemorrhoids. The use of aloe in sports supplementation should not be overlooked either. Presently, ordinary aloe is increasingly being used in addressing issues of excess weight.

The Operational Procedure

The health-promoting character of aloe (aloe juice) is determined by its impact on the body. The most significant effects include: - pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties, - soothing of irritations and normalization of the digestive system, - acceleration of intestinal peristalsis, - reduction of blood sugar levels, - stimulation of the human immune system, - regeneration and hydration of damaged skin. The main contraindications for using the therapeutic properties of aloe are chronic inflammatory conditions of the pancreas and bladder, kidney stones, as well as pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Provision of supplementation

At present, there are no definitive guidelines regarding the appropriate quantity of common aloe vera supplementation. In the only research involving human subjects, 300 mg of the substance was administered twice daily. The dosage should primarily depend on the intended objective. Animal testing, in which 100 mg/kg body weight was administered, resulted in undesirable outcomes.
