Many individuals (including up to half of all patients) exhibit no noticeable symptoms despite persistently elevated blood glucose levels. How does the disease progress in the elderly? What factors demand particular consideration?
Diabetes in the elderly
Type II diabetes is an insidious disease that develops over many years. The average time from onset to onset of the disease is 9 years. There are a number of factors that promote the development of diabetes and make it difficult to treat. These include: increased fat mass, low physical activity, stress, too low potassium levels and other unrelated factors (genetic factors).
