Borreliosis, also known as Lyme disease, is a tick-borne infection that is affecting an increasing number of individuals worldwide year by year, including in Poland, where more than 25,000 cases were diagnosed in 2023. It is characterized by complexity and a wide array of symptoms, which are often non-specific, making the diagnosis demanding and time-intensive. While standard antibiotic treatment is indispensable, it is equally critical to have appropriate nutritional support that can alleviate symptoms and aid in the recovery process.
What is Lyme borreliosis?
Lyme borreliosis, also known as Lyme disease, is a tick-borne infectious illness, widely prevalent in Europe and North America. Its spread in Europe is predominantly linked to the common tick, while in North America, black-legged ticks are the primary vectors. The bacteria of the genus Borrelia, specifically Borrelia burgdorferi, and other closely related species are responsible for causing the disease. The infection occurs through the bite of an infected tick, which allows the bacteria to enter the human body, where they can disseminate and impact various systems and tissues.
