One of the key elements of a healthy diet (which can be found, for example, in recommendations for healthy eating) is limiting salt intake. It consists of two elements – chlorine and sodium – and it is the latter that should be particularly observed in the diet. What is the role of sodium in the body, what dangers are associated with its excess and in which products is it most commonly found?
The Court basic information
Sodium is a metallic chemical element with atomic number 11, which in the periodic table is included in group I. It is a soft, silver metal, but it does not exist in this form in the environment. It binds to other elements. Among the sodium compounds used in everyday life are purified sodium (sodium hydrocarbon, NaHCO3) or kitchen salt (soda chloride, NaCl).
