The story of the discovery of mirror neurons
At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, Italian scientists discovered mirror neurons in monkeys. This finding was about groups of motor neurons. It was observed that when a monkey performs a rather complex activity, a certain group of nerve cells is activated, which also reacts when the monkey observes the same movement by another monkey. Similarly functioning groups of neurons were also detected in humans. This means that the interpretation of the observed behavior takes place in the recipient's brain through a kind of simulation.
