Adipose tissue serves far more complex functions than merely storing excess calories or regulating core body temperature. It represents a dynamically active metabolic and endocrine organ that synthesizes and secretes a broad spectrum of bioactive molecules—including adipokines, cytokines, and steroid hormones—which collectively modulate systemic homeostasis across multiple physiological axes. Unfortunately, like other anatomical structures, adipose tissue is susceptible to pathological alterations, among which **lipodystrophy** emerges as a clinically significant heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by abnormal fat distribution or loss, leading to severe metabolic and hormonal derangements.

Lipodystrophy is a group of rare disorders that involve the loss of subcutaneous fatty tissue and endocrine disorder: insufficiency of insulin, hyperinsulin, intolerance to glucose or type 2 diabetes.
