In recent years, it has become increasingly common to hear about people adhering to a reduction diet significantly limiting their fat consumption, which they blame for their weight gain. Consequently, their dietary plans are not only low in fat, but also deficient in vitamins that are dissolved in them, leading to the development of numerous disorders in the body.
Lipid-soluble vitamins
Lipid-soluble vitamins encompass vitamins A, D, E, and K. Although they do not serve as energy or building materials, they are indispensable for the normal functioning of the body. These vitamins can be stored in the liver or fat tissue, and the reserves of vitamin D are sufficient for a period of 3 months. Therefore, deficiencies of these vitamins are uncommon, except for vitamin D. However, it should be noted that lipid-soluble vitamins, due to this property, can be overdosed with improper supplementation, as they are not freely excreted by the kidneys.
