However, in 2010, scientists Ulrik Wisløff and Valencell embarked on research into a pioneering approach to physical activity and developed a new method of its measurement – the PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) coefficient.

The Personal Activity Intelligence index, abbreviated as PAI, constitutes an advanced, individually tailored metric designed to evaluate cardiovascular fitness, grounded in rigorous scientific analysis and comprehensive research on the impact of physical activity on human physiology. Its calculation is derived from a meticulous interpretation of data pertaining to the intensity and duration of undertaken physical exertions, while simultaneously accounting for critical demographic and physiological variables—including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and the individual’s current health profile. Through the use of modern wearable devices, such as smartwatches and fitness trackers, vital signs—particularly heart rate and exertion dynamics—are continuously monitored. The collected data undergoes sophisticated algorithmic processing, yielding a personalized PAI score that quantifies the individualized effect of physical activity on cardiovascular health enhancement. It is important to note, however, that the functionality for tracking this metric is currently implemented exclusively within the ecosystem of Xiaomi-branded devices, thereby limiting its accessibility to users of these specific technological solutions.
