Gluten intolerance, also known as celiac disease, is a diseased condition with an autoimmune basis that causes a persistent intolerance to a plant protein -- gluten (glyadine, hordeine, and secaline). As a result, specific antibodies to endomysium (EmA), deamidated gliadine (DGP), and tissue transglutaminase (tGT) are produced, which damage the mucous membrane of the digestive tract and lead to poor absorption of nutrients. Symptoms can occur both within the digestive tract and outside of it.
Celiac disease in children
In children, the classical form of celiac disease is dominant. Over the years, however, there has been an increase in other forms of the disease. In 39.5% of children with celiacs, it appears before the age of 2. Children are a particular group. The disease impairs the absorption of nutrients, thereby causing insufficient coverage of the body for nutrients especially the building blocks that are important for the developing young. Before the disease is diagnosed, there is also a lack of energy and protein, which helps the body to slow down the growth rate, overweight and lead to inflammation.
