Given the growing awareness of the benefits of balanced nutrition and the need to reduce sugar intake, artificial sweetening agents have emerged as a highly popular alternative to this ingredient, offering a pleasant sweet taste with minimal caloric input, making them an appealing choice for individuals aiming to maintain a healthy body weight or manage blood glucose levels.
What are artificial sweets?
Synthetic sweeteners are chemicals with an intensely sweet taste that can be used as a sugar substitute. They are mainly used to reduce the caloric content of foods and beverages, as they generally do not provide energy or provide much less energy than traditional sugar. They have a high sweetness level up to hundreds of times higher than sucrose, so they can have a minimum amount of sweetness. However, they are used mainly in foods light, dietary sugars, desserts, chewing gum, and in some products (Z.K. Chen et al. 2024). The most commonly used ingredients are aspartame, but it is similar to other sweet drinks.
