The season for asparagus is now at its peak, so it's beneficial to stock up on these green vegetables, which contain many nutritious components for the human body. Not only are they excellent ingredients for a delightful midday meal, but they are also a great complement to healthy morning meals.
Is it genuinely asparagus when it's worth investing in?
Asparagus is undoubtedly associated with early spring. This is not surprising, as they begin to appear at the beginning of April and May and are available until the end of June. The availability period is not very long – it is actually only 2 months, so it is worth making good use of this time (O. Szczepaniak et al. 2019). Asparagus is grown on a large scale both in Europe and in Asia, although Poland does not have a high production; it is also not a popular vegetable in our country. In stores, green and white asparagus are mainly available, although there are many more varieties (in 2018 their number was 70). In Poland, the most commonly grown varieties are Andreas, Dariana, and Schwetzinger Meisterschuss (O. Szczepaniak et al. 2019). Asparagus is suitable for the preparation of many dishes. A good choice is to serve them with meat, fish, or grain products such as pasta and rice. They also work well in breakfasts, e.g., as an addition to eggs. There are many ways to prepare asparagus. One of them is boiling vegetables in boiling water (the heads protrude slightly from the water). This technique allows for even cooking of asparagus. Other methods of preparation include grilling, baking, and frying.
