Erythrocytes, commonly referred to as red blood cells, perform an indispensable physiological role by facilitating the delivery of oxygen molecules from the respiratory system to peripheral tissues while concurrently participating in the removal of metabolic byproducts, most notably carbon dioxide. Their capacity to bind respiratory gases stems from the presence of hemoglobin—a complex iron-containing protein exhibiting high affinity for oxygen—which enables efficient gas exchange. Additionally, erythrocytes contribute to the maintenance of pH homeostasis, thereby preventing disruptions in acid-base equilibrium. Leukocytes, or white blood cells, constitute a diverse population of immune cells whose primary function involves the detection and eradication of pathogenic agents, including bacteria, viruses, and fungal microorganisms. This cellular group is further subdivided into granular leukocytes (granulocytes) and agranular leukocytes (agranulocytes), each exhibiting distinct morphological features and operational mechanisms.
