Discover the secrets of steaming and 5 recipes for delightful dishes.
Basic rules for proper steaming of food
Steaming is a thermal processing method for food that does not require direct contact with water. Immense water vapor with a temperature of about 100°C is used to cook products placed on the individual floors of a steam cooker. In this undertaking, the correct preparation of the ingredients is of utmost importance. Raw materials should be fresh, unharmed, and of high quality. It is worth considering the selection of lean meat varieties such as poultry, beef, and veal. It is not advisable to put frozen meat or fish in the steam cooker, although in the case of vegetables, when there is little glaze, there is no need for prior thawing. It is also worth noting that frozen vegetables will cook longer than fresh ones. On the other hand, the pieces of the ingredients should be of similar size, allowing for a free water vapor flow. Below, above the container with water, we put ingredients that require the longest heat treatment, such as meat, fish, and hard root vegetables - potatoes, beets. On the following floors, we prepare products that require less time. The preparation of individual ingredients should be counted from the moment the water is boiling. It is also worth considering the addition of spices to the water, giving the resulting steam an extraordinary aroma that provides taste and juiciness to the ingredients. Instead of water, homemade broth can also be used. It is equally important to arrange the products in the container properly so that the individual products do not touch.
