The solemn supper is one of the most significant moments of Christmas. In most regions, it is a time of abstinence, hence various types of fish dominate the tables - cooked, baked, fried, with various sauces or gelatine. According to tradition, carp, a fish strongly associated with Christmas, appears in almost every household. However, the Polish cuisine is rich in recipes for various festive fish, so it is worth trying other species and serving them not only during the holidays.

Der Fisch für das Weihnachtsessen symbolisiert Christentum, Fruchtbarkeit und Wiederbelebung des Lebens. Die Beurteilenden behaupten, dass er im kommenden Jahr großes Geld bringen soll, und einige speichern seine Schale in ihrem Portfolio, um sich finanzielle Erfolge zu sichern. Woher aber die Gewohnheit, Karpia zu Weihnachten zu essen? Diese Tradition entstand erst in den 50er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts, in der Zeit des PRL. Früher war der Fisch bei den Polen beliebt, aber nicht mit Gottes Geburtstag verbunden.
