Dioxins represent highly hazardous chemical compounds that everyone must be aware of. They are classified as persistent organic pollutants that enter living organisms through ingestion, dermal contact, or respiratory exposure. These substances belong to the category of xenobiotics that arise in the environment due to human activities. They induce severe toxic effects that result in irreversible health damage. Unfortunately, complete eradication of dioxins from our environment is no longer feasible.

Dioxine

Der Name dioxins bezeichnet eine Gruppe von ähnlich konstruierten chemischen Verbindungen aus Oxanthren-Bifenen, die Kongener sind. Gerade die 75 PCDD-Kongener (polychlorisierte Dibenzo-p-Dioxine) und die 135 PCDF-K Congener (polychlorisierten Dibensofurane), von denen 17 stark toxisch wirken. Außerdem sind auch polychloriserte Biphenyls, sogenannte PCBs, die bis zu 209 Kongener darstellen. Dazu gehören Verbindungen mit ähnlichen toxischen Eigenschaften wie Kattendioxen, die daher "dioxypische PCBs" genannt werden.
