What is an isotonic drink?
Isotonic is a beverage whose concentration is the same as that of body fluids in the body. As with other food products, it is recommended to include water and nutrients i.e. salt, potassium, calcium, magnesium, vitamins or simple carbohydrates. Depending on the composition and manufacturer of the drink, it may also contain amino acids, L-glutamine, l-carnitine or other food additives. It is therefore advisable to carefully label it in order to limit the amount of chemical ingredients in the blood.
Is it even legal for children to drink isotonic beverages?
According to the recommendations, isotonics can be consumed by adults whose physical activity shows an intensity that indicates the need to supplement the body with water, minerals and energy components. In the case of children, a diverse diet based on the Healthy Diet Principles and the Healthy Nutrition Pyramid should provide all the necessary nutrients and water for the proper functioning of the child's body and it is therefore not recommended that they consume ready-made products of this type.
Natural isotonic compounds
As the name suggests, coconut water consists mainly of water and contains a smaller amount of carbohydrates, proteins, sodium fats, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamins C or B. In addition, this water has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, so not only is it well hydrated, but it also has a beneficial effect on the overall functioning of the body.
Is that even how to make a homemade isotonic drink?
In order to prepare a homemade isotonic beverage, it is necessary to provide water and products that provide minerals, vitamins and energy. The simplest isotanic drink can therefore consist of water, honey, lemon juice and salt spices. 40 g of honey, teaspoons of juice and 1/3 g of salt should be used per litre of isotopic drink. These regulations can be modified in terms of composition to obtain other organoleptic properties by adding mint, aronia juice or wine.
